Trump Says Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Will Reopen After Repairs

President Donald Trump says the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has been drained for repairs and will be refilled and returned to service soon.

The work follows months of problems at the landmark, including algae blooms, discolored water and damage to the newly renovated pool surface. The renovation project has cost more than $14 million, according to CNN.

Trump said vandals cut long gashes into the pool lining. A CNN crew that visited the site reported seeing sediment, algae and debris after much of the water was removed, but did not observe obvious long cuts in the areas it could access.

Federal officials have been asked for evidence of the claimed damage. Several people have separately been charged with removing pieces of blue paint from the pool and have pleaded not guilty.
